Never saw an SID job posted on jjobs.com before (though it does make sense).

Lock Haven may be Division I in wrestling, is Division II in all others.

Well, Lock Haven certainly isn't an upper echelon PSAC program.

Football has struggled to compete in recent years. Same with men's hoops. Women's hoops, though, had a remarkable turnaround -- something like a 13-game improvement -- last season.

Everyone,

At least Lock Haven didn't drop football like my friends over at Mansfield did.

Such a disgrace, the first school with a night football game in history.

And now they don't have a program.

Ridiculous.

what the hell does that have to do with this job?

Or hers.

Mansfield may be the only PSAC school without a football program.

Anyway, back to LHU. Not the most glorious place, but there are far worse places to live. Less than an hour to Williamsport and State College, and apparently Lock Haven has some (college-themed) nightlife of its own. Just be prepared for a lot of long bus rides, though.

Wow, I stand corrected. PSAC sports aren't my specialty, to say the least.

No, you were right the first time, wicked.

I just forgot to use the sarcasm font.

I imagine they will get plenty of aps for this one since it pays in the high 30s-low 40s and that is plenty to live off in Clinton County. Since there seems to be a quick turnaround and they want someone in place quick, by the ap date, my guess is the university higher-ups have someone in mind that they want in that office and probably are waiting to see if he or she applies. Since its an athletics position, it's probably someone that's in good graces with the athletic director.

Everyone,

So, I wanted to vent.

But, my first love went to Mansfield, and I always enjoyed the atmosphere of a football game there.

I met my love when my alma mater, Central Connecticut, went to play Mansfield in 1991. The Blue Devils and the Mounties tied at 35-all, before deadlocks were decided by overtime at the collegiate level.

Oh my, I am dating myself. :)

Mansfield is a nice place. As is Lock Haven. And I am sorry if I came off as venting, when of course, it has nothing to do with the job in Lock Haven.

I covered the Little League World Series one year and was forced to spend a night in Mansfield, about an hour to the north and in the middle of nowhere. Yikes. It made Williamsport look like New York City. Would people actually choose to live there?

This may be a curse/blessing, but you will have little time to spend that money. I'm sure there will be lots and lots of 60-hour weeks there. The PSAC SIDs work their butts off.

Wicked,

AMEN to that. It's not easy being a Division II sports information director.

Especially in the PSAC, because of double-digit schools and a heap of sponsored sports.

Truman State in Missouri also has an opening right now, for those of you who are interested in SID work.

Brief word of warning ...

The last time I applied for an open SID job, I was told that although they liked my resume and professional references, they couldn't consider me because I didn't have any experience operating scorekeeping software like DakStats or The Automated Scorebook.

Given that smaller schools like Lock Haven have their SIDs wearing a lot of different hats, having stat software experience might be a deal-maker or -breaker.

I don't disagree with that, but I find it funny that they don't mention that in the posting. That why I tend to believe they have someone in mind. If you were hiring of an SID, wouldn't stat programs be a must? But if you look, they only want a journalism or communications degree. Maybe they are looking for a media member or former media member to get in there to promote the school. Correct me if I am wrong but they have three local newspapers within 40 miles of the university. I'm sure someone at those three have some ties to the university in some form. Whoever said something about PSAC SIDs working their butts off are correct.

That may be true, but that stuff is much easier to learn than say, ah, being able to write a complete sentence. These SID jobs are a joke. At least most all the ones I work with are a bunch of lazy hacks — who make more than me so I hate them even more.

I will sort of agree with you; I've met more bad SIDs than good ones. But there are a number of very, very good ones out there.
