I was thumbing through my SI this afternoon, and I noticed they have redesigned the entire front section of the magazine. I personally like the changes other than that they mostly eliminated the red color with black. I like the black, but I think the color helped the pages pop. Otherwise, I think the design shape changes give the magazine a more modern feel.

Yeah, it looks like there's more text now. (Although it could be an illusion)

I don't know why they bother redesigning it so much.

Thanks for the heads-up. I don't usually get mine until Thursday so it gives me something to look forward to.

Yes, I know it's bad to end a sentence with a preposition but who says "to which to look forward"?

Yes, I get mine on Thursdays, too. Seems like they tweak the look every couple years, so it's about due for some minor changes. I'll plan a late night with my mag and a Dr. Pepper tomorrow :)

By the way, I just downloaded the SI iPad app. It's sweet. Great way to read the mag.

I'm continually amazed they devote a page to Dan Patrick, who simply recycles his radio material.

I never listen to his radio show (or any radio show), and actually enjoy that page for a quick read. Certainly, it beats Reilly.

This...it was like a trade between SI (Rick Reilly) and ESPN (Dan Patrick) and both new places turned out the worse for it. Yes, if you listed to his radio show, you've read his page. Silly.

I'm in favor of some of the changes -- such as eliminating the lowest-common-denominator Pop Culture Grid and that nonsensical hot-and-not chart that was darned near impossible to decipher -- but the magazine is still nowhere near its peak days of the 1970s and 1980s. Just too much garbage in it and not enough great writing.

They still have Hot and Not...just in a sillier format...not a big fan of that one.

I like some of the tidbits, but Scorecard usually handles those needs for me...I don't need the other fluff

I said that they got rid of the indecipherable chart. That had to be one of the most ridiculous things SI has ever run. I think they realized it fairly quickly, because I don't think it even lasted a year.

It gets me something to which I can look forward.

Only the grammar freaks will care too much though.

We grammar freaks long ago lightened rules on ending sentences with prepositions.

I just spent 35 minutes on the phone with SI changing my subscription to digital only. I swear it was like I was the first person who have ever attempted this. They were thoroughly flummoxed.

Finally did it and it will save me about 50 percent of what I was paying, not to mention saving space in the old recycle bin.

Not a fan of the redesign. It looks busier, and the editorial content is a little more difficult to distinguish from the ad content when you're thumbing through it.

More surprised that they didn't waste a page explaining the redesign. Looks like they dropped the text size down a smidge and cut down on the white space.
First noticed it with the college football preview issue.

All the thick, bold rules and tall, horizontally squeezed heads make the story text look cramped. I wonder if the newsholes are a little smaller as a result. Look at the first page of the Pat Summitt Scorecard page. Does "SCORECARD" really need to be gajillion-point, with a big margin above and a wide, blocky shadow box under it? Not sure what that accomplishes, other than dominating the story text.
