It was like 10,000 spoons when all he needed was a knife.

The multi-millionaire owner of the Segway company died in a freak accident yesterday when he rode one of the high-tech two-wheel machines off a cliff and into a river.

Former miner Jimi Heselden, 62, plunged into the River Wharfe while riding around his West Yorkshire estate in Boston Spa on a rugged country version of the Segway.

He bought the firm last December and was using one of the machines - which use gyroscopes to remain upright and are controlled by the direction in which the rider leans - to inspect the grounds of his property.

Now that's bad staff work! A new take on Victor Kiam: "I liked the Segway so much, I bought the company! And died on one!"

Well, the textbook example of irony would be if he was riding one while trying to prove how safe they were, and that a person would be unlikely to fall off a cliff.

I'm going to hell for this. Here is a pic of the guy on his way down.

Jim Fixx will now have a roommate in the afterlife ...

Oh, and I laughed out loud at the Wile E. Coyote art. Good pull.

Safety tip No. 1: Don't ride your Segway near a cliff.

Guess it was his segue into the afterlife.

I just knew this movie would lead people to try dumb stuff with Segway's at home.

They're yelling, "STOP!"

I have to admit when I saw this story on the wire this morning I cracked up out loud.

RIP unlucky Segway dude. (but that is some funny ****)

I admit that I laughed when I heard it to. And it seems to have brought out the snark in a lot of folks.

A friend linked this story on Facebook with the following comment: "He died doing what he loved best...being lazy."

And the guys at EveryDayShouldBeSaturday tweeted this with the following comment: "I'mnotlaughing I'mnotlaughing I'mnotlaughing"

There'd have been a funner way to take that concept to heart.

And it may have seemed dangerous to be so close to a cliff, but that's how he rolled.

Wow. Through smarts and hard work, the guy became rich. Now he's a punchline.

Why does God hate free-market capitalism?
