Description:
The Logansport Pharos-Tribune is looking for an assertive and creative leader for our sports department. Last year, our sports department earned the HSPA award for best section and we need someone who can help us raise the bar even higher. The qualified candidate will be someone who is fast on his or her feet and can think outside the box. Responsibilities include managing one staff writer and a good group of stringers, covering six area high schools, producing and editing copy for daily and special sections and coordinating layout for those section. There are also opportunities to cover Purdue, Notre Dame, Colts, Pacers, NASCAR and other major sporting events that come to the area. Requirements include a degree in journalism or a related field and at least three years prior editing experience. He or she should be able to craft compelling copy on tough deadlines and be able to get the same from other writers. He or she should also have strong grammar skills, an excellent understanding of AP style and good organizational skills. Nights and weekends are required. The Pharos-Tribune is a 12,000 circulation daily newspaper in north central Indiana. We’re within driving distance of Indianapolis, South Bend, Chicago and Lafayette.
