Pompous windbag. He often has great analysis, but his holier-than-thou attitude gets worse every year. Plus he's a prick ...

One of the great tourney moments is the regional final from two years ago, when Kentucky dude whose name escapes me hit a 3-pointer that bounced a few times before dropping through, tying the game at the regulation buzzer. According to legend (I can't vouch for the veracity personally), dude ran over to Packer to scream obscenities at the ass, and Packer, headphones on, reached out to high-five him.

Classic idiocy from that guttersnipe. Get him the hell off TV.

Against Michigan State, right? I heard that story too.

Billy's not the only in TV -- or for that matter, sports journalism -- who fits that description.

Nice...

what kind of monopoly is Billy Packer running...damn let someone else get a shot...

I also think he gives players credit.

Last night he was talking about Noah and how he reacted to a play, and I was like, there is no way Noah ran all that bull**** through his mind in that split second. Give me a break they aren't superheroes.

When doesn't Noah react to a play? The guy snarls and beats his chest after he pours a bowl of cereal.

I loved during the title game when Packer went off about how he thinks players shouldn't have to foul out of games. He suggested that the opposing team should just get an extra free throw when a player with more than five fouls commits a foul. The funny thing about that is that the ABA -- a totally garbage league -- actually has that rule. The ABA recently fired John Salley as its commissioner ... maybe Packer could run the show.

Or how about when Tyler Hansbrough caught that elbow in the face from Gerald Henderson? Packer kept going on and on about how it wasn't intentional and how the refs made a mistake in calling it flagrant. Meanwhile, the replay is showing the mugging over and over again.

Packer, Vern Lunquist and the other old-ass announcers are like Brett Favre. They've stayed in the game way, way too long. I can't even count how many times I heard Lunquist call guys by the wrong name during the NCAA Tournament. I know these guys were good once, but isn't there an entire generation of younger announcers who could take over the mic?

"No offense taken or given

Both CBS' Billy Packer and a University of Kentucky spokesman said Tuesday that nothing negative was involved in Sunday's hand-slapping between Packer and the Wildcats' Patrick Sparks after Sparks hit a three-point shot that sent the NCAA regional semifinal against Michigan State into overtime.

On a Dec. 18 telecast on CBS, Packer had said Sparks had traveled before he was fouled and made three free throws to beat Louisville on an ESPN telecast that day.

Although Sparks was unavailable for comment Tuesday, Kentucky assistant athletics director for media relations Scott Stricklin denied that Sparks shouted at Packer in a negative way.

As he boarded the plane to return home, Stricklin said he asked Sparks about the incident.

"Patrick said he didn't say anything to Packer," Stricklin said. "I said, 'Someone told me you cussed him.' "

Stricklin said Sparks replied he was caught up in the moment and that if he said anything it was not directed at Packer.

Packer said Tuesday that he had his headset on Sunday and did not hear what Sparks said after he made the key three-point shot in the two-overtime loss to the Spartans.

"I had felt sorry for (Sparks) after he missed a free throw," Packer said Tuesday. "Then he hit a shot that will live in Kentucky lore forever. He ran over to the sideline, to our table. I touched his hand. I don't know if he knew where he was. I knew he didn't carry a grudge. I stirred up nothing.""

That's not age. Lundquist's been doing that as long as he's been on the air.

No thanks. I don't find him the least bit attractive. Plus I don't play for that team.
