Classy. That was a solid read.
And it was so classy, it was posted on the Whitlock out of ESPN thread -- where this whole thing started

Scoop, it turns out, can actually write, when he takes off the Bojangles costume ESPN wants him (among others) to wear.

Eventually, most of the "Nat X" brand of writer/broadcasters will realize they're really playing Stepin Fetchit for The Man.

buckweaver, and don't you think it's appropriate to thank me and my hand for elevating scoop's writing?
I wouldn't thank your hand for elevating anything... ;)

You know, this back-and-forth between these two ego-drivel fools is beyond lame. It's becoming a stupid argument and their grade school insults don't serve our readers. They should both just stop it now.

jambalaya, do you work at the kc star or for that blog? i just want to make sure which of "our" readers you are speaking for.

KC? No, Jason.

Your myopia is astounding.

From East of the Mississippi,

so i lack the foresight to see you speak for thebiglead's readership and the kc star's readership?

or maybe you need to rethink your disgust and state it more clearly and accurately. "i wish these guys would shut up. i'm tired of hearing about it."

trying to couch your disgust in a "disservice to our readers" is about as dishonest as the ghetto posturing that made scoop as infamous as nat x.

Their war is like one of those old school battle raps between L.L. Cool J and Kool Moe Dee. Keep it coming.

Those battles were fantastic (as is the reference).

Hey guys. I actually discovered this message board about a week ago because of the whole Scoop thing, but I've been lurking until now.

Jason, I'm sorry to read about the ESPN thing... but at least one positive result from the ordeal is that you have earned the respect of a lot of people out there, myself included. (Not that I disrespected you before, I just didn't know you.)

Anyway. A great board, I hope to post here from time to time even though I feel like a poser (I'm a sports blogger, not a sports journalist), this place is pretty incredible.

Cheers.

Just waiting for the new wave techie kids, or one of them at least, to name their son or daughter Blogger.

I'm just wondering what kind of introspection ensues when Scoop Jackson comes off looking more mature than you.

No response necessary ... tonight, I'm kind of proud to join Mr. Jackson in the list of people you don't respond to.

I know nothing of S. Jackson's background beyond what appears on his espn.com bio. I will say at least three things in defense of Jason Whitlock:
1) He posts under his own name
2) He earned his stripes in this business by working -- I believe -- for a PM. Having done that myself, I know that creates absurd work hours and no sense of personal peace.
3) He played football and uses that to provide context and not microscopic analysis on things the layman will never care about . As far as I can tell, he resists the urge to delve into "Edge NFL Matchup" minutiae, which, as far as I'm concerned, fly completely over the heads of 90 percent of the audience.

Except in this case, everyone's Kangol hat is underneath a Jeep Wrangler.

Can't this die now?

I am not Black. I have never been black, at least not to my knowledge. But this argument for some reason feels very personal.

Although I don't agree with how Whitlock dealt with the issue, I'm glad it was brought up. And, while Scoop's. Column. Was. Decent. I. Can't. Stand. Reading. All. Of. The. Periods.

My question is this - what comes next? What do you want to happen Whit? Do you want Scoop fired? Do you want him to cease his writing style? I just don't get the point of continuing this war...

I side with Whitlock because he's one of us: A newspaper guy. A journalist. Scoop is just another guy with a keyboard and an opinion. But he also seems to think that Whitlock has to make a choice between being black and being a journalist. He doesn't, and no one does.
