A man whose constitution as a human being matched his ability as a performer.

Best of wishes to him and his.

"The Hustler" . . . Best Picture, 1961.

What you say . . . it didn't win?

As **** Cheney would say, "So?"

It should have.

I heard he was great in The Hustler.

. . . with George C. Scott being the baddest bad guy on film, and Jackie Gleason in his best film role. Unparalleled.

Paul Newman once taught me to drive a race car.
It was only a few laps, but it was pretty cool.
Made for a good story.

You could have a hell of a discussion his best role.
I might say The Sting.
I also might say Cool Hand Luke.
And I might change my mind a million times.

For all the major things he's been in, I've always had a soft spot for a little movie called "Nobody's Fool" that came out in 1994. Just always liked it.

. . . and I hope we can postpone that discussion, for a good while.

Aw man ...

Newman's Own is one of our customers, so we used to get tickets to Watkins Glen when he raced there. Met him for the first time when I was 9 or 10, and you'd better believe I had a crush on him for a long time after that.

An e-mail sent by his spokesman neither confirms nor denies the rumor.

All the best to Paul and Joanne.

Damn, I'm eating a salad with some of his damn fine olive oil and vinegar dressing right now. Godspeed, Mr. Newman.

Loved him in The Verdict because be played against type a bit by taking the role of a weak-willed, drunken ambulance chaser. Watching his character evolve and redeem himself was a great way to spend two hours.

And I gladly drop whatever I'm doing to watch The Sting whenever I run across it on the tube.

And I'd say Long Hot Summer, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, Hud, The Hustler. Absence of Malice, The Verdict, Road to Perdition, Nobody's Fool. And I'd change my mind a million times as well.

I loved him in Long Hot Summer. It may one of the sexiest movies ever --and what a cast, not to mention the screenplay was by William Faulkner.
.
Newman is the Ultimate Guy's Guy.

One of the greatest ever...

I watch Cars at least once a week with my kids. He's so great in it.

I can't think of a truly bad movie he's been in, and most have been tremendous.

Single-handedly raised "Message in a Bottle" from complete treacle.

You can talk about it while he's alive. No rule that says someone has to be history before discussing their best roles.
