I'm going to put myself out there and assume that is legitimate. And if so, I understand the shock value of that opening paragraph, but it's beneath a state legislator. He needs to put on his big-boy pants.

I think it's legit.

I also think the big boy pants of decorum, dispassion and emotional distancing is at least part of what got us here.

We're killing our children. It's OK to be impolite.

I'm not going to turn my pearls into dust over it, but flying in the face of decorum can be the "thing" for another generation. Not mine.

Our generation is the one that encouraged and allowed this.

So I'm OK with pitching the fake sympathy, prayerful insincerity and empty politesse over the side.

Maybe rudeness can save some lives.

The previous generation gave rise to Howard Stern and Morton Downey Jr. The tree may be in full bloom now but those seeds were planted a decades ago. Generation Z was -20 at the time.

I don't know how many times this needs to be spelled out ... but it doesn't have to be one or the other. It can be both.

There was one man who, after surviving the Hiroshima bomb when he was in town on a business trip, got home to Nagasaki just in time for that one. The world's only* double 'hibakusha,' such is the Japanese term for an atomic bomb survivor. I thought about him last night.

*Others from his company probably qualified but just weren't officially recorded. Also, amazingly, he lived until 2010, to the age of 93.

Hmm. Words someone is uncomfortable with vs. three dead and five wounded in East Lansing.

Those are both on totally equal ground.

Doesn't change a thing I said. You can bust your nuts trying to twist it, but a fact's a fact. You can condemn both.
