If thread is extraneous, please advise.

This Carson Palmer thing is getting messy. Break up or don't, but stop talking about it.

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/02/17/snyders-control-costs-kornheiser-credibility/

Yesterday I noted that Washington Post columnist John Feinstein said he felt queasy by Kornheiser’s instruction that Snyder was not to be criticized on his show. Today Feinstein was a guest on Kornheiser’s show again, and I listened in the hopes that Kornheiser would relent and allow the subject to be discussed. But no: Not a word was spoken about Snyder, who is the subject of a great deal of discussion in other D.C. media over his lawsuit against the Washington City Paper.

Feinstein also appeared on Mike Wise’s show on a station Snyder doesn’t own, however, and on that show Feinstein said Kornheiser deserves the criticism he has received for his refusal to say anything bad about Snyder.

“I think that Tony’s getting criticized for not even talking about this story, and I agree with that, I have told Tony that,” Feinstein said, per Dan Steinberg of the Washington Post. “I’m not talking behind his back. But as I said before, it is his show, and you’re entitled to talk about what you want to or don’t want to, as long as you’re willing to accept the criticism that comes with those decisions, whatever they might be.”

Although Kornheiser was a longtime journalist for the Washington Post, Feinstein pointed out that Kornheiser isn’t a journalist anymore, he just plays one on TV — which some might argue makes it acceptable for Kornheiser to take a paycheck from Snyder, avoid criticism of Snyder and have a chummy relationship with Snyder.

Of course, when he was a journalist, Kornheiser loved nothing more than to pontificate about the standards of journalism and give sanctimonious speeches about why Pulitzer Prize-winning Washington Post journalists were superior to lowly bloggers. That makes it a little harder to give Kornheiser a free pass.

Re: Running NFL Offseason Thread

John was wrong to even appear on Tony's show under those conditions. I know they go back a long way, but it was a foolish thing to do. You can't give that kind of crap the credibility you possess, and John of course, possesses one hell of a lot more of it than me, to name a random example.

Bob Sanders: Gone

I'm wondering what it would take to get Palmer. I don't think he's great, but I think three of the NFC West teams could definitely upgrade with him. Do you think he could be had for a second-rounder?

Re: Running NFL Offseason Thread

This should help, but probably won't:

The mediator has a history of supporting unions so you know the greedy **** owners will never agree with anything he suggests.

The Sanders move had to be made. He's just too injury-prone.

If San Francisco is going to stick with a WCO, Kolb already has experience running it. He also wants out, is younger, healthier and would be cheaper to come by. Palmer is in the top 20 for career passer rating (86.9), and has only played for two winning teams -- and it's hard to say he's in the upper crust of the league now.

He isn't and hasn't been for a while. Palmer was right up there with the best quarterbacks in the NFL four or five years ago, but then the injuries piled up and he has never gotten back close to his old level.

Re: Running NFL Offseason Thread

He has excellent numbers. Better than a lot of QBs that are and have been propped up.

At least one team in the NFC South could use Carson Palmer, too. But it won't be a second-rounder - that got dealt last year.

Assuming there is still a Franchise tag in the next CBA, the Steelers make it official that Lamarr Woodley would get it for 2011.

Re: Running NFL Offseason Thread

I don't think any team is willing to give up what it would take to get Kolb. I'd give up a late No. 1 or a No. 2, but nothing beyond that. Everything I read says the Eagles want a lot more than that.

Re: Running NFL Offseason Thread

Bengals apparently have no interest in trading Palmer, which I can understand. Don't see where he has a leg to stand on. You signed a contract, your team isn't very good... fine, work to get better like everyone else instead of whining to get out. If you REALLY don't want to play there, fine, retire.

You were a No. 1 draft pick (which usually means going to a bad team) and signed a million-dollar contract. Too bad all of us can't have it so bad.

This argument again? Just because he makes a lot of money he can't ever complain about anything? Bull****.

The team is a mess and ownership has no interest in changing the way they do things. Is Palmer part of the problem? I think so. I think it would be best for both sides if he went elsewhere at this point. He sees that, but the Bengals don't.

Of course, if the Bengals wanted to unkload his non-guaranteed contract they would do that in a heartbeat and nobody would be complaining about another greedy **** owner chopping a player's head off to save a few million.

Re: Running NFL Offseason Thread

The team isn't that f-ed up. They went undefeated in their division with a cast of nobodies two seasons ago.

The guys on one Bengals board are proposing a three-team trade between Cincinnati, San Francisco and Philadelphia. The 49ers get Palmer, Bengals get Kolb and Eagles get San Francisco's first-rounder. Maybe too simple, but interesting.

Then they managed to suck with the pretty much the same group the next year.

That is an interesting idea. I just don't get all of the love for Kolb. Why is he worth a first-rounder?

So, when a big-revenue team in MLB takes advantage of the system to buy a championship, they are playing by the rules, but when an NFL team cuts loose a player because it can, it's a bad thing. Can you smell the hypocrisy? I sure can.

Where did I mention baseball? Where did I say it was a bad thing? I was saying people will complain about a millionaire player whining but not about billionaire owners cutting said player to save a few million.

Read better please.
