This is my favorite-ever Texas plate. We had it on a Mazda 626 a bunch of years ago..

Starting to see many of these around town. They came out about two months ago and replace a 20-year-old ugly Beaver plate.

And yes, Oregon is officially known as "The Beaver State."

I still like the "Pacific Wonderland" plates better, but the new Beaver plate is pretty sharp.

I still think the Duck vanity plate has more going for it. Nothing wrong with the classic tree in front of the Cascades standard Oregon plate, but if you want to go next level, I'd go with

I hate the growing trend of blackout plates like those. Feels like another battle in the war against design and non-conformity.

Braves fans dominate in this state but there are plenty of Yankees fans because they are a nationally prominent team. Same reason there are plenty of Dodgers and Cubs fans here.

According to s 2023-24 sports fan survey by this outlet, NYY is the favorite MLB team of 10.45% of the South's sports fans, trailing only the Braves and Astros.The team's share in the South is appreciably greater than its share of the West (7.22%) and the Midwest (3.14%).
It has always struck me that a team named the Yankees could be so popular in the South. The name alone would seem to be a strike against popularity in that region.
In my sportswriter days, I covered a team that was affiliated with NYY. I learned a fair amount about the team's history. A nationally established brand, to be sure. But they were concerned with maintaining two geographical groups of fans: Manhattan for the Wall Street crowd and the South for volume outside the Northeast. When another team in their same city integrated in 1947, they resisted following the lead. They held off and resisted the urge to go woke because they could. They won the World Series in five straight years (1949-53). They didn't win the AL pennant in 1954. Only thereafter did they integrate. Elston Howard, who had hit .330 with 109 RBI in 1954, finally got the call in 1955 at the age of 26.

I am glad there are people like you in Alabama. You have the courage and the intellect to oppose Trump and his klan. And, yep, Trumpism and racism are everywhere. If they were confined to the South, we wouldn't have the disaster we have in this country today.

I just want to know who is making fan decisions in the 21st century because the Yankees were lily white in the 53 series. If that was the deciding moment in your fandom when you were, say, eight then you are now about Joe Biden’s age.

If anything, wouldn’t somebody picking a team for reasons like that gravitate to the Red Sox?

Also, when you are surveying people by region, you are surveying a greater percentage of blacks in the South than in other regions. I’ve actually read pretty good arguments that well-meaning people who reflexively criticize the South do so because they think of Southerners as white and that in its own way is a form of erasure.

1) Sports fandom tends to be multi-generational. Fans tend to like the same team(s) that their dads liked. This is probably waning, however.
3) Excellent point about racial demographics by region. I can't tell exactly how accurate that observation is, numerically speaking, but it's solid.

Same with the Diamondbacks. At least half their home games have more fans rooting for the visiting team.

I think that would be harder to parse because you have up to seven other teams who would fall in the footprint of “West.”
