Sharks and Predators play two this weekend in Prague, everyone else starts next week. Drop the puck!

Made me check my local listings. Sharks' TV outlet is carrying it, not the Preds?

Bally, which is in a perpetual snit with my provider. Most of the time it doesn’t matter because ESPN Plus has decided I’m not in blackout range, but today that doesn’t work.

However, I am getting a nice surprise because Terry Crisp unretired for the Europe trip and is calling it on radio with Pete Weber like old times.

So I am not watching the game. ... Are they playing on a European-sized sheet of ice or is it 200 by 85? If it's 200 by 85, did they build it specially for this?

Missed the details, but Weber said it was NHL regs earlier. Seemed surprised, so I’m guessing they did some sort of last minute reconfigure.

I did predictions the last few seasons, so here goes:

Metropolitan: Carolina, Rangers, Islanders, Pittsburgh, Devils, Washington, Columbus, Flyers
Atlantic: Toronto, Tampa, Florida, Ottawa, Boston, Buffalo, Detroit, Montreal
Central: Colorado, Minnesota, Nashville, St. Louis, Winnipeg, Dallas, Arizona, Chicago
Pacific: Calgary, Edmonton, Los Angeles, Vancouver, Vegas, Anaheim, Seattle, San Jose

All- Canadian Stanley Cup finals: Maple Leafs defeat Calgary

The Tampa Bay Lightning have a problem. Ian Cole has a problem.

Hockey also has a problem.

Re: Emily Kaplan’s tweet, even if the NHL had a policy on domestic violence (which is kind of concerning), would the policy govern these allegations anyway? This seems like it would be an entirely different crime. Although maybe domestic violence covers more than I figured.

Also, why wouldn’t this be paid leave?

I keep patiently waiting for @Cosmo to tell me which level of mediocrity I should expect from the Caps this year ...

Don't expect them to be great, but I sure as heck don't expect them to miss the playoffs either, which seems to be the trendy pick out there. I'll believe the Devils improving by 30 points this year when I see it.

Caps will probably be a wild card again, though I'm worried about a massive dropoff from Oshie this season. I just think all of the abuse his body has taken is going to take its toll at some point.

EDIT TO ADD:

Lots of good nuggets from Tarik El-Bashir in this Athletic piece: What I’m hearing about the Capitals ahead of the 2022-23 season opener

Did not realize Protos had blown the doors of the brass at camp. I admittedly pay close to zero attention to preseason. Excited for tonight.

Caps still have Ovi, Carlson, Oshie, Kuznetz, Orlov, Wilson. And that is a lot of talent. They are also old as anything as a team. I don't think the Devils will make the playoffs either, but they are a team on the rise. Jack Hughes is going to be a superstar, Dawson Mercer is really good and they added a few nice pieces.

Last night, I was like a pig in slop, flipping between the Yankees playoff game and the Rangers opener. The Rangers are goooooood.

No doubt they're old. That's why is exciting to see someone like Protos get a real shot. I'm still higher on McMichael than most, as he's still super young and has plenty of room to grow. To me, the guy who really needs to show something this year is Mantha. I know he was hurt for a huge chunk of last year, but he's healthy and cannot be a zero if the Caps have aspirations of doing anything this year.

Hello out there, we're on the air, it's 'Hockey Night' tonight.
Tension grows, the whistle blows, and the puck goes down the ice.
The goalie jumps, and the players bump, and the fans all go insane.
Someone roars, "Bobby Scores!", at the good ol' Hockey Game.
Oh! The good ol' Hockey game, is the best game you can name.
And the best game you can name, is the good ol' Hockey game.

All the best to your respective Stanley Cup hopes. Watching Toronto-Montreal tonight with a Coors because I don't think the local beer store sells Labatt or Molson.
