RIP Rodney Rodgers

Wake Forest legend and former NBA Sixth Man of the Year Rodney Rodgers died yesterday.

He had an ATV accident a couple of years after retiring from the League that left him paralyzed.

Just found out today that longtime Durham sportswriter Elson Armstrong Jr., died Oct. 31. From the moment I met him as a college freshman at Fresno State, the Big E never stopped talking about his beloved Hillside Hornets and the exceptional players that came from that high school. But I don't think anyone was better or had more potential than Rogers.

RIP, the Durham Bull.

One of the best players to ever come out of Hillside High in Durham. Great get for Wake Forest.

The stories that came out regarding his decency are legit. Dave Odom is a good judge of character, and he cannot say enough good things about him. Randolph Childress doesn't pull punches and he holds Rogers in high regard.

The accident was heartbreaking on multiple levels. Not just because he was one of the kindest people I’ve come across in this business — as mentioned earlier — but to see him wither physically as he did remains one of the most jarring sights of my life. But in my mind’s eye, he’ll always be the Adonis who punctuated a rout of Carolina at the Joel back in 1993 with a 360 dunk. (IIRC, it snapped a lengthy skid to Carolina, 12 games or something like that.) I never blame a guy for turning pro early, but I always wished he would have stayed one more year so we could have seen him, Randolph Childress and Tim Duncan on the same team. R.I.P.
