RIP Paul Mooney

Writing partner for Richard Pryor and smart, funny comedian in his own right:

I think I first saw him in one of Robert Townsend's specials ("... and His Partners in Crime") on HBO, and saw him pop up from time to time on TV. I do remember his bits on Dave Chappelle's show as "Negrodamus."

I always thought Mooney was so brilliant in the way he presented his comedy. He was from a different time when no comedy was over the top and good luck trying to throw him in with those that could be canceled.

I think he had a bet with someone that he could do a whole set without using the n-word at the Lincoln Theater and he was rolling beautifully for an hour -- probably some of his best stuff and he accidentally dropped the water during a line about O.J. Simpson golfing...He was just amazing and unapologetic. Aren't too many more like him and when that group goes there will be none left.
