Very sad.
Merv's show in the 1960's was appointment after-school viewing, especially when Richard Harris and Malachi McCourt were on.

The best Seinfeld episode, that makes me laugh every single time like it was the first time, is when Kramer rebuilds the Merv Griffin soundstage in his apartment. Good times.

An absolute classic. "Elaine Benes, Ladies and Gentlemen..."

I remember watching that as a kid. 8:30 p.m. on KTTV in Los Angeles.

FYI, Merv wrote the Jeopardy! theme song, meaning he gets (got) a check every single freakin' time that little ditty hit airspace. That alone should vault his net worth into the ionosphere, never mind the Beverly Hills real estate he owned, the syndication profits from Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune, etc, etc, etc.

That seems a little heartless to me ..

so why am I laughing my ass off?

fine work W_B.

Wherever Merv ended up, I'll bet Arthur Treacher's pimping chicken for him already.

The thing is Merv would probably laugh at White-brained's post.

RIP to the man who left a legacy of about $1.6 billion. Plus Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune, guaranteeing that no one will ever forget him.
