He died on Sunday at age 79 after suffering from Parkinson's Disease for some time.
He was an AFL, NFL, WFQ quarterback in the 1960s and 1970s. Got most of his playing time with the Dolphins and Bengals. A starter/backup whose career was bedeviled by injuries.
He was a college teammate of Jets' great Gerry Philbin at the University of Buffalo. Buddy Ryan was a coach at UB when they were there, in the old Rotary Field days, before UB stupidly ended the program. He also played three years of varsity baseball and two of basketball at UB.
If you grew up when I did in WNY and followed college sports, he was a very big deal.
