Nothing new in Jefferson Parish. They'll give this guy a medal and post him on the Gretna bridge to shoot evacuees during the next hurricane.

The cops let him walk free. So maybe we're missing something? Yes, I think we are. But let's immediately make this a black-white thing, with an eye witness -- who are always reliable and with no vested interest, racial or otherwise -- basically saying he pulled a Terminator-like quote before pumping an additional round into McKnight....

Should we jump to those conclusions? No. Should we question why they couldn't hold the guy when there seems to be no question that he did the shooting? Most definitely.

As dixiehack said, that it happened in Jefferson Parish certainly adds to my suspicion regarding how this is being handled.

They held him. Until they thought they couldn't justify holding him anymore. This isn't some gang banger who got shot. It's Joe McKnight, who is a local legend, so I'd imagine they were even more sensitive to the circumstances. Just a lot we don't know, but the narrative is not helped by the absence of a definitive police statement about why he was let go already and what the situation was. They need to fix that asap or **** is gonna go sideways fast.

If they had booked him on manslaughter, released him on bail and then after a further investigation determined the charges wouldn't stick, they could just drop the charges.

Agreed. Shoot someone in broad daylight, with an eyewitness, stick around to give them the gun and don't deny it, and you walk out of jail in less than 24 hours?

I'm not a good driver (you all know that I'm sure) and I'm probably just very lucky I haven't been involved in more accidents, but for God's sake, it's only driving.

There was one time when a woman pulling out of a driveway threatened to shoot me because she thought I came a little too close to her. I didn't hit her so I don't know what her problem was. I certainly didn't try to hit her. Another time, I cut off a guy (not on purpose) and the guy pulled about 200 yards in front of me, backed up at me at speed and stopped just short of hitting me, I guess, to prove that it doesn't matter what I meant to do, it matters what I did.

Why can't people let no-harm, no-foul situations go?

My mom is the absolute worst about this stuff. Since I was little, she yells at other drivers, lays on her horn, throws her hands up in the air over the littlest inconveniences. Just a couple weeks ago I was driving with her in a parking lot at Target or something. A father and son cross in front of us - I wouldn't even think twice about it. I'd probably smile and wave them on, typically. She gets impatient, throws her hands up, and shouts, "Well come on, already! Geez!" My son has told us, in passing, that "Grandma gets mad when she drives," which, obviously, I just love.

Some people are just pissy drivers. I can't explain it.

It's weird, especially because Will Smith's shooter pretty much did the same thing, and seemed arguably justified in shooting Smith, but was arrested and charged and tried.

Ya mean she's otherwise not pissy? Not trying to be flip, but most people I know who are asshole drivers are in fact assholes, they just seem to think the separation of being in their own self-contained unit gives them license.

Even in a vacuum it's weird. They said yesterday that the one thing they know for sure is that Gasser shot McKnight. No doubt about it. Even if the investigation shows he was somehow justified, that comes later. So how do you let that guy out of custody? At least keep him in jail for a couple of days until the DA makes a determination.
