Leader of '60s San Francisco band Country Joe and the Fish, most political of the acid rock groups. Author of "Vietnam Rag," their most famous song. "So it's 1,2, 3 what are fighting for?" Dead at 84 from Parkinson's complications. A voice we needed right now, damn it.

Probably most famous for being more influential than famous. One single that peaked at No. 98 on the Billboard Hot 100 and highest album chart peak was No. 23 in 1968.

Their first album was really great, but there was no follow up, as they became pigeonholed as a "protest" group. But check out their instrumental in the film Monterey Pop for a better idea of what they were about.
