Someone has posted on wikipedia that Chuck Daly has died.... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chuck_Daly

It's been acknowledged that Daly is dealing with pancreatic cancer. As the Benoit and Russert messes showed, sometimes an unsourced wiki update is accurate. I realize it may also be someone being an idiot. Having said that, has anyone heard any credible info on Daly's health?

Re: Chuck Daly status - anyone heard anything?

His death was announced tonight by the Atlanta Hawks.

Small problem: The NBA says he's not dead.

Someone might have some explaining to do ...

Figured he was in rough shape, which is why all the NBA coaches were wearing lapel pins with his initials this weekend.

Playoffs were dedicated to him.

One of the greatest NBA coaches of all time. Heck, he even gave the New Jersey Nets respectability

Damn. One of my favorite coaches from one of my favorite teams.

Great, great smile.

Man.... I seem to get more and more emotional with each of these obits.

This one hits too close to home. My mother-in-law died in October of pancreatic cancer - eight weeks after diagnosis. Daly's path was similar to hers - when I heard the news that he was in the hospital, it was only a matter of time.

Once you go into the hospital for treatment of pancreatic cancer (i.e., constant morphine, nerve block, etc.) there's no turning back. Happened with Daly. Happened with my mother-in-law. Cancer's a *****, but pancreatic cancer's an entirely different animal. At least it was in my family's case.

Rest in peace, Coach.

Same, same for my dad, noodles. Dad made it a little longer. Diagnosed in late February and died in early July.

I remember thinking he was going to win a championship with New Jersey when they hired him. What a great coach.

My dealings with Chuck Daly go back to his days at the University of Pennsylvania and his first pro coaching stint with the Philadelphia 76ers. Always had time for you and was easily the best dressed coach I've been around and he didn't look like a pimp on the sidelines.
I am saddened that he is gone but from what I understand, he'd been suffering for quite some time. RIP.

The first and last time I gave a **** about an NBA team. This sucks.

RIP Coach.
