He was instrumental in getting the Champions Tour off the ground. Realized it needed some flair to have a chance.
You could make an argument that the Champions Tour was better than the PGA Tour in the '80s. Back when it wasn't ashamed to simply call itself the "Senior PGA Tour." They played almost 40 events a year and drew crowds and sponsors everywhere. I can still hear Jim Kelly's voice calling it on ESPN.
