RIP Charlie Daniels

Saw Grinderswitch, Charlie Daniels Band and the Marshall Tucker Band years and years ago. During Daniels' set, someone threw a firecracker onstage. Daniels went off and ripped the guy a new one, threatened to go out into the pit and kick his ass. Got a great cheer, the tosser got tossed.

Great, great show. All three bands came out for a version of Will The Circle Be Unbroken to close it and it was incredible.

Funny, I was listening to the Big 40 countdown on XM's 80s channel last week, when it was from that week in 1980. One of the songs was his "In America," which was interesting juxtaposing that song and what's going on in this country today. These lines:

And we may have done a little bit
Of fightin' amongst ourselves
But you outside people best leave us
alone
'Cause we'll all stick together
And you can take that to the bank
That's the cowboys and the hippies
And the rebels and and the yanks

I don't think those groups will stick together today.

Yeah, he went 'round the bend years ago, still tweeting about Benghazi yesterday. As noted online, Uneasy Rider sure changed his pov.

Session player for many, including Dylan, in the 60s. Man could play.

Saw the CDB and Marshall Tucker back in the mid 70s. Fine show. RIP.

Schools marched in the Nashville Christmas Parade in alphabetical order behind whoever was the grand marshall. My first year, it was Charlie Daniels, who insisted on riding his trusty steed, Keister Nugget. KeKe Nuggie shied, backed into the color guard multiple times, and continually pooped along the entire route. I will forever associate Mr. Daniels with horse doo.
