Baseball just got less fun.
Uecker on Carson in response to a question from Johnny. "My first contract with the Cardinals was for $500. It wasn't much, but it was all my parents had."
I was 10 years old in 1982. The Brewers were on TV maybe once a week, probably less. So it was radio almost every night in the summer following that wonderful, fun team through Uecker's call. Sure, he was on Carson and had Mr. Belvedere and Major League, but there was nothing like him telling stories -- interrupted perfectly with pitch calls -- on the radio.
