As a sci-fi geek I truly am saddened. My favorites from Clarke were the Rama series and the entire 2001 series (2010, 2061, 3001).

I covered an appearance he made in my hometown, for my high school paper. I thought he was really old then ... and I was in high school a Loooonnnng time ago. Back in the '70s, he kind of owned "the future," he was the guy who seemed to understand where technology was going. If only he'd had some ideas for the newspaper industry ...

I realize I'm certainly in the minority, but as far as the movies, I liked 2010 more than 2001.

All his books in that series are tremendous.
