I just finished reading a Hank Greenberg biography. In it, he and Rosen majorly clashed when negotiating salary, and when Rosen refused to take a huge pay cut for a mediocre year, Greenberg refused to trade or release him, and Rosen's career ended prematurely. Pretty sad story.

Rosen also dealt with a lot of crap for being a Jew, especially when he replaced Ken Keltner, a Catholic, at third. I think he also was one of Steinbrenner's early GMs.

According to my father, he's a distant relative of ours. Not sure how and I never met him. But RIP anyway...

 

[Steak Snabler]

Missed the Triple Crown in 1953 by one batting average point behind Mickey Vernon. Went .336/.422/.613 with 43 homers, 145 RBIs while playing in what was an extreme pitcher's park. His OPS+ of 180 that year is one of the highest ever by a third baseman.

Also had a good run as Giants GM in the late 80s. RIP.
