In the Toronto one, they have all bike lanes and off road bike paths marked. It also gives you the total elevation gain.

The idea of "safe" cycling routes in NYC doesn't quite translate to reality. Bike lanes are great, but so many people ignore them and use them as places to double park or just drive over. Unless you are willing to take your chances wheel to wheel with the cars, and do a little weaving in and out of lanes, there's no way to ride a bike here.

Drivers ignore cycling lanes here as well, particularly downtown. It's an ongoing battle about the rights of cyclists versus the idiots in SUV's who think they own the roads.

If you go to the site and switch to NYC, you might try a route from your apartment to one at the other end of Manhattan and see what you get.
