I've got a friend in Sacramento who told me they just broke in to talk about this for about 15 seconds. Maybe it's not as serious as it sounds, but I'm flying tomorrow, so this is really unsettling.

Los Angeles International Airport was evacuated Wedenesday evening after someone tried to get past security with mortar shells.

Security found the shells at the first security checkpoint around 9:40 p.m. Wednesday.

Dozens of police cars are on scene. All the passengers who had not passed through security were evacuated.

The LAPD Bomb Squad examined the shells and determined they were non-explosive.

Initial reports suggested shots had been fired, those reports are unfounded.

We will update this story as details become available.

Re: Mortar rounds at LAX???!!

Talk about jumping the gun on a story and getting it wrong...News 10 has updated their story with the following mildly important detail:

Initial reports suggested shots had been fired, those reports are unfounded.

Re: LAX evacuated, no shots fired after all?

Somewhat odd that a Sacramento tv station has this, but the LA Times has nothing?

Re: LAX evacuated, no shots fired after all?

I felt the same way, just scrambling to find this ANYWHERE else.

Re: LAX evacuated, no shots fired after all?

UH, maybe this is all bull****?

"News10 has heard reports of two mortar rounds fired at Los Angeles International Airport."

What the **** kind of reporting is that?

I wonder if this was much ado about Capt. Rex Kramer entering LAX.

"We'd like you to accept this flower on behalf of the Church of Religious Consciousness."

"Read about Jehovah's Witness?"

"Jews for Jesus?"

"How about Buddhism?"

"Reverend Moon?"

(punch)

"Scientolog ... uuuh"

I've seen Airplane! many times and I don't recall gunplay in that scene or any mortars.

Surely, they can't be serious.

Even better than the Dynamite sig.

Re: Report: LAX evacuated...dummy mortar rounds

One person I talked to watching TV says "dummy mortar rounds" were to blame. LAPD I guess determined they weren't explosive, so...phew. But what kind of moron takes that to an airport?

Story is starting to pop up on Google News:

Well, at least it wasn't made up.

Maybe filming the next season of 24?
