I've got a friend in Sacramento who told me they just broke in to talk about this for about 15 seconds. Maybe it's not as serious as it sounds, but I'm flying tomorrow, so this is really unsettling.

Los Angeles International Airport was evacuated Wedenesday evening after someone tried to get past security with mortar shells.
Security found the shells at the first security checkpoint around 9:40 p.m. Wednesday.
Dozens of police cars are on scene. All the passengers who had not passed through security were evacuated.
The LAPD Bomb Squad examined the shells and determined they were non-explosive.
Initial reports suggested shots had been fired, those reports are unfounded.
We will update this story as details become available.
