Reggie Bush is going to lose his Heisman

So we've had the USC three-peat, which by AP standards was a two-peat, but in reality was a one-peat. Does this make it a no-peat? [/LSUfanboy]

Love it, Batman. Never really had anything against USC until I started encountering some of their alums while covering pro sports and now that I live in PAC 10 country. And it just drives me crazy how snotty they are towards LSU and the SEC. Really really nasty. So I'd LOVE for them to get titles stripped.

It goes both ways, though. LSU fans have blasted USC ever since the split national championship, like this was the first time that ever happened with the polls. As Les Miles' preseason comments indicated, they just can't let it go.

I doubt Reggie Bush will lose his Heisman Trophy.
It would be so unprecedented.
Does anyone think Eric Dickerson and Craig James weren't being paid money while at SMU.
And those guys aren't in any way tainted today. Both are lauded for their past performances.
Losing the Heisman just ain't gonna happen.

What do you mean by skates? This could be a loss of insitutional control, if the NCAA can prove some of these claims. You think SC didn't see all the nice stuff he had while he was there? The coaches who recruited him knew his family didn't have that kind of money.

Until the NCAA deploys teeth to back its policies, no one's going to worry too much about violating them. Look at KU. They are smack in the middle of serving a "lack of institutional control" sentence and I think they're surviving.

I could be wrong, but I think SMU got hit so hard because they not only cheated, and got caught, but lied to the NCAA during the investitgation, and continued to cheat while the investigation was going on.

Having said that, if the NCAA is always concerned about "extra benefits" for athletes, then why not let each athlete earn whatever the marketplace wants to give him. Any other student can have people loan them money. If someone wants to give Bush a car, let them. I'm no athlete, but when I went away to college, a neighbor of my parents sent me homemade cookies several times. If I was an athlete, that would have been an NCAA violation.

Well, they may not have any choice now. Yahoo moved the story forward today. Apparently the investigators heard tapes of Reggie incriminating himself. Can't see how the NCAA can get out of letting Bush AND Southern Cal off. Someone is going to have to take the fall. I still thinki it's gonna be Bush and that Heisman.

Sorry for chazping this post, but Yahoo! is reporting today that the Heisman Trophy Trust is expected to strip Reggie Bush of his Heisman.

In the wake of Mike Wise's ill-considered tweet that landed him on suspension, it leads me to wonder if this has been properly vetted.

Where you "end up" 5, 10 or 20 years later is of no consequence.

But if you are ruled to have been ineligible WHILE YOU WERE WINNING the trophy, then you don't get to keep the trophy.

Is it remarkable that this thread (and likewise the investigation) was started three years ago, and the chips are still falling? Does it really take this long to close the book on a story that was already essentially written in the fall of 2007?

I know it's not that simple, but there has to be a better way to investigate and litigate this stuff.
