National Public Radio and “Wait, Wait, Don’t Tell Me” iconic announcer Karl Kasell has died.

I've been a fan for as long as I can remember. It was only in adulthood and mid-journalism career that I realized he was a fraternity brother of my father at UNC. Dear old dad never thought that introducing us might be a good thing. I just knew I enjoyed listening to him on the radio and when I learned of the Carolina connection it made it better.

They both appeared in The Lost Colony down in Manteo in their youth. Griffith as Sir Walter Raleigh and Kasell as Chief Wanchese.
