Used to be, beer was cheaper in a pub than it was in an English supermarket. (I know; I've comparison-shopped.)

Something has changed, obviously. Anti-smoking laws spring to mind?

And the greatest non-Irish pub in the world, The Hawley Arms in Camden Town, was semi-destroyed in a fire recently.

I doubt SportsJournalists.com-London is a large group, but if anyone's in London, there's a benefit show at Dingwall's on Aug. 14.

That was definitely not the case when I was there a little over a year ago.

Ploughman's Lunch is ****ing great. Pub not far from me - here in the Toronto 'burbs - served a great one back in the day.

As long as the 3rd Street Diner is still open and the ex-cons are manning the flat top, my heart is quiet and content that there is still a place in this country for a drinking man — even if it is 600 miles away.

It was far from the best pub I've ever been to, but it did have a healthy amount of micros on tap. And thankfully, no domestics on tap.
