Help Support Sports Journalists Forum:

Wow, almost 10 years later and this thread is still going ... and I happened to be the second reply.

A ridiculous post by Boot finally stopped me from being a lurker in Feb.2006:

Praising Les Carpenter sounds about right.

Without touching the topic of conversation, I just wanted to say that Yahoo! has yet another steal. Carpenter is as good as any in his NFL coverage, and Yahoo! Sports will maintain its high standard with this hire.

I'm guessing for long-serving members, the Boots and Livestrong threads will be responsible for most oldest still-extant posts.

I asked this on a thread about the 2006 NBA MVP:

did faux-real change his name?

My actual first post was in 2004, I believe, when I posted a column from my high school newspaper. It was completely destroyed, as it should have been.

Good guess.

Yeah, this one's a little embarrassing. I gave a genuine response on Boots' Turning Down a Romp in the Hay thread.

My first post, from Movie Scenes that Make You Cry. Simon Cowbell called it one of the best debut posts ever.

Of course, it's been all downhill since then for me.

That thread caused many to stop being lurkers.

Including me. And I have to say I'm very proud of this one.

OK, let me get this straight. She's trying to drag guys into the sack, she's shown you photos of herself in girl-on-girl action and she's pushing for a threesome ... and this is a ``nice girl'' you want to take home to your mother?

Hi, Mom, I want you to meet my new girlfriend, the horny, kinky, lesbian ****. Yes, I knew you'd be thrilled.

Funny how the story on the Braves hasn't really changed. If this 12 things happen, they might have a chance to do something ...

I know I was at about 1k posts when the old board up and died, and I was a late-comer to the fallout shelter.

My first few posts were job-related questions (I was looking for a new one in early 2009), and since they were specific to each listing, I won't use those.

After a few days I discovered cool threads in Anything Goes, such as "Vote for the Best Live Rock n Roll Album of All Time." Thus began my quest for SportsJournalists.com rock nerd-dom:

I tossed Cheap Trick a vote, but truth be told, their first three studio albums are pretty damn good, too. And they always stuck poor Rick Nielsen on the back ... must have been because of his Cubs hat. ;D

I second the nomination of Genesis LIVE (the one with Peter Gabriel on the cover with that goofy headgear). Also agree that Wilco's "Kicking Television" is worthy; they're by the far the best show I've been to in the last five years. Unfortunately, I don't get out to many anymore.

Finally, if bootlegs are eligible, then the widely-circulated Pearl Jam Soldier Field show from 1995 is among the best live "albums." Eddie V. telling off Q101 onstage was a fun moment. And if my memory is correct (always iffy when the 1990s are involved), the night before the PJ show, the Grateful Dead finished off their 1995 tour at Soldier Field. That was Jerry's last show.

"Keep on rockin' in the free world, folks"

From the Livestrong thread ...

I'm not overweight, but I've changed my diet a little bit (reducing carb intake by about 30-40 percent) to reflect some of the Atkins theory. Also, while generally a grazer type eater, I've begun forcing myself to eat a larger breakfast even though I never feel like eating for several hours after getting up. I stick to lean meats and veggies in the evening. I allow myself a few Amstel Lights.

For exercise, I lift for about 45 minutes on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings. I do three sets of four different exercises with moderate weight and I rotate exercises on a quarterly basis to ensure balance. I follow this with sit-ups and stretching. At 45, my goal is to maintain muscle mass with good tone and keep my stomach somewhat flat.

I get my aerobic work by running up the stairs at the 47th Street-Madison Ave. exit at Grand Central Terminal and moving quickly as I weave in between and around the goddam tourists gawking at the skyscrapers.

You've heard of road rage? Well, I have sidewalk rage. Perhaps I need some yoga or meditation, too.

Yes. The Heavenly Bed. Very nice touch. I accumulate Starwood points and try to stay at Westins as much as possible. Westin is also upgrading dozens of its hotel gyms nationwide. I must say, however, that the Heavenly Shower is kind of stupid.

So what's the point of this thread? Anything food related? Upcoming restaurant trips? What you're currently eating? Recipes? Any? All?

Mine also is from the Take Care of Yourself thread:
