Heard from one source, waiting for a few more, but the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette is supposedly extending its "desired buyout number" from 18 to 28. There will most likely be layoffs.

Just called a guy who would definitely know there.
This is absolutely false.

Nothing like batting 1.000 on your first post.

His best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who's going with the girl who heard it at 31 Flavors last night. I guess it's pretty serious.

Seriously? I just spoke to three people who work in news and they all said it is true. I don't know who your guy is ...

If I'm following this thread correctly, you're newbie.

Just got more info ... according to one writer, four guys in sports are on the list of buyout offers. Not sure if this is the most definitive source, but it does provide some insight into the situation there.

Wow. Some good guys work in sports there. Hopefully we'll know more soon about their status.

I just heard that Paul Meyer is on the list for taking the buyout. Not confirmed, though.

Say it ain't so!

I suppose it wouldn't be terribly surprising, all things considered, but a damn shame nonetheless.

Is Dejan safe? I don't know Dejan Kovacevic, but he works his ass off covering MLB and a Pirates team that doesn't light up the scoreboard much.

I heard the same thing. Axelrod is supposedly on the list, too.

Don't know him either, but the guy is tremendous.

City Paper: Some reports from inside the P-G say sports will especially be hit hard ...

I have a several good friends who work there.

It is apparently a very bittersweet time.

People are thankful that the union and management are trying to work together to avoid layoffs but nobody is jumping for joy at the thoughts of 30 to 35 coworkers going home for the last time ever.

I suppose this is the business and this business is not unique to this as almost every business is hurting these days.
