According to people currently delayed at SeaTac International Airport, all flights were grounded because someone stole a plane and took off without clearance. Air traffic control is in contact with the rogue pilot, who is threatening to do a barrel roll.

"FAA sources say it appears an airline employee stole a Horizon Air Turbo Prop from SeaTac and took off and crashed Ketron Island outside Seattle."

From AP:

Officials at Sea-Tac International Airport say an Alaska Airlines plane that was stolen by an airline employee and has crashed in Washington state.

Airport officials say in a tweet Friday night that an airline employee "conducted an unauthorized takeoff without passengers."

Witnesses reported seeing the plane being chased by military aircraft near the airport.

The Pierce County Sheriff's Office said on Twitter that preliminary information suggested that a mechanic had stolen the aircraft. The tweet said the crash may have been caused by the mechanic "doing stunts in air or lack of flying skills."

A Coast Guard spokeswoman said the agency was responding to a report of a smoke plume and possible plane crash. Petty Officer Ali Flockerzi said a 45-foot vessel was headed to the scene.

Not the best story to hit a month ahead of the 9/11 anniversary. He was a mechanic and he stole a plane. Could have rather easily gone the other direction and crashed it into Safeco or CenturyLink Stadium. None of the three teams were playing at home tonight.

Here's the ATC communication. Those people are not paid enough. Seattle is a pretty busy airport (as you hear) having someone who doesn't know what they're doing with a plane like that whild juggling dozens of other jets. And becoming a suicide counselor at the same time....
