The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette is seeking a reporter to help lead its Pirates/MLB coverage.
Candidates should have experience reporting and developing a wide array of stories with a strong focus on digital and audience-engaging content. Past experience covering professional or collegiate baseball is preferred, but certainly not required. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Producing stories, including breaking news, analysis, human interest and enterprise, regularly across multiple publishing platforms.
- Examining analytics tools, fostering audience discussion and using social media to better promote and inform coverage.
- Understanding basic digital-publishing and SEO principles.
- Building and maintaining sources on beat.
- Willingness to innovate and utilize non-traditional storytelling and methods.
To call a 162-game baseball season a grind is an understatement. Yes, games, injuries and transactions need to be covered. But we're also looking for a self-starter who can think outside the box and examine off-the-wall topics in an engaging and fascinating way for our audience.
This position requires a flexible work schedule, including nights, weekends and holidays, and travel. Those interested should email examples of work, resume and cover letter to Assistant Managing Editor/Sports Tyler Batiste at [email protected]
