Others in are the 1966 NCAA champion Texas Western team, Van Chancellor, former NBA referee Mendy Rudolph and international coaches Pedro Ferrandiz of Spain and Mirko Novosel of Yugoslavia.

In addition to Dickie V falling short, Eddie Sutton also didn't make it.

Or in some way did he help turn the NCAA Tournament from a simple tournament into more of an event, complete with wall-to-wall first- and second-round coverage by Vitale's employer?

**** Vitale's promoted college basketball better than anyone over the last three decades. Heck, if it wasn't for him ESPN may not have even survived. You don't have to like him but to suggest that he doesn't deserve Hall consideration is short-sighted.

As good as he is, **** Vitale could only make the Hall of Fame as a broadcaster, and maybe he does deserve to be there.
But look at the bigger picture. Does he?
