If this is a D-B, please feel free to tell me so, but I did not see anything or recognize anything about it on the board so far. But....Isn't JoePa getting to be too old for that kind of close contact where he could risk injury? I think this is the second or third time, isn't it? Yeah, I know I am overstating the obvious, here. It just strikes me as foolish on his part at his age.

JoePa's a freak of nature in many ways, but he's not immortal. If he wants to die on the sideline or sitting at his desk watching game film and the people at Penn State are OK with it, I say let him.

I've always thought that Paterno and Bowden hung around so long because they were worried that they'd die within months of retiring, a la Bear Bryant.

At some point the Big Ten or NCAA brass should step in to prevent this.

This is the second time Paterno's been bulldozed on the sidelines.

He's not alert or quick enough to be safe out there any more. If there's a student-body sweep or a sudden interception, you can have 15 300-pounders sprinting across the sidelines at full throttle.

PSU can appoint 6 or 8 people to act as bodyguards but if you have a dozen people coming across the sideline at full sprint that won't do any good.

They need to put him in some kind of fenced-off box or golf cart.

Good for business in Penn State's case is having a high-profile coach who spurs donations; being on national TV for two-thirds of its schedule; and having a coach who gives some of his paycheck back to Ol' State. Urban Meyer or whomever else takes over isn't doing that.
