Figured I'd go ahead and start one with games now underway.

Wake Forest kicks off the bowl season by beating Navy. Few care.

Still, BYU/AZ should be exciting today, and TCU-Boise seems pretty good on Tuesday.

Hell, I care. In the pool I'm in, Wake-Navy counts just as much as the Rose Bowl. The BCS game is the tie-breaker.

I know ESPN has crews bouncing all over the country over the next couple of weeks, but I wish they showed more of the activities the team's participate in leading up to the game and more footage of some of the local tourist spots. Too often they broadcast these bowls like they're any other game. They aren't. Not that they're more important, but that they're showcases. Tell me the viewer what makes this particular bowl game unique.

Those New Mexico tourism commercials during that bowl game were disturbing. Apparently, bloodthirsty aliens with acid for blood blow off a little steam by heading to New Mexico on their two weeks off a year.
Yikes!

Also, South Florida's coach sounds like he's smoked six packs of cigarettes today.

The field at the Trop looks even worse than it does for a Rays game.

The baseball part of the field looks like what I'd pull out of the wash after my dog **** all over it.

Leavitt always sounds like that. I remember hearing him talk during an interview a few years ago, and then, consequently, thinking Christian Bale during the last Batman movie and him must have the same voice coach.

BYU-Arizona, 2nd quarter: What replay monitor are Patrick and Blackledge looking at? There's no way that's a catch. Great effort, but not a catch.

Random observations from today:

Arizona's uniforms are fugly. C'mon, how difficult is it to go back to the old white helmet-blue jersey-white pants combination? South Florida, on the other hand, finally seems to have found a good color for their helmets.

St. Petersburg Bowl -- is that a football game or a 100-lane bowling center with a seniors' discount?

New Mexico Bowl --- best-looking and most unique trophy. Don't drop it, though.

A college bowl game ... at RFK?

Do you suppose the folks at the Vegas casinos kick a hobo every time BYU gets a bid to the Las Vegas Bowl? You know those fans aren't hitting the bars and casinos.

BYU is a fraud. I've been saying it all year. Utah's up next on the fraud-o-meter. I would say Ball State, but they're playing a team that is actually of their caliber.

The Vegas bowl is horrendous. Two **** teams and a referee crew that is wildly incompetent. They had a 5 minute review just to figure out what down it was.

I wrote something earlier this year that once BYU lost a game, they pretty much turned into complete ****. Started making a ton of mistakes (like they've done tonight w/ 3 fumbles) and quit playing anything that resembled good football.

BYU got the benefit of an absolute bull**** call to avoid overtime against Washington.

WASHINGTON!!!

So essentially they're the Western version of Georgia?

If I was a player I'd want to go to a bowl game in a place I hadn't been before. Feel kind of bad for the number of teams playing at "home" this year. But Albuquerque is a cool place, too bad most of the teams that play there have already been there, same with the Rose Bowl, and Vegas. It would be great to see more cross-country match-ups, Pac 10 v. SEC, WAC v. MAC, Big East v. Mountain West. Eastern teams come west in Boise and SF (ACC) and the Rose, but few Western teams have played east of Texas.

And the stink-fest that BYU put down was pathetic. They played like crap and still weren't out of it, but then found a way to screw up some more.

Didn't see the game. I'm sure BYU played poorly. But Arizona was a bit underrated this year. That was a good bowl matchup for them.

Two things that caught my eye: Colorado State wins a bowl game, after Lubick is pushed out the door last year. Tonight, Southern Miss is playing in a bowl game, a year after they pushed Jeff Bower out the door. Sounds like both programs didn't struggle too much, other than sporting pedestrian 6-6 (or 7-5) seasons.

Gotta love the canary gold uniforms, though USM got penalized and lost a timeout for it.

Holy crap, that DB came in fast to break up the option pitch and running it back for a TD.

Standout USM wideout DeAndre Brown, who is probably the biggest recruit to come through Southern in a long time, got prothroed. Second most gruesome leg injury I've seen live. Do not watch it if you have a weak stomach.

It's such a shame to see a guy with so much talent and promise go down like that.

Yeah, that leg looked like it was bent in a way it wasn't meant to be bent.

Looked like it happened before he even jumped for the ball, too.
