Sergio, who I just happened to not start in Round 1 in the SportsJournalists.com fantasy golf league, off to a quick start.

Then again, so is 50% of the field. I get the feeling this is a Paul Lawrie/Todd Hamilton-type year.

The course is so dry and flat that you could drive with your putter and still have it go about 300 yards.

Nice round by Woods today. Made a lot of 6-footers for par and eagled 18 to finish at -5, one shot back.

Tiger picks up where he left off at U.S. Open, blows easy par putt on 1.

Yep, that horribly-overrated Tiger.   ::)

One shot back.

With the exception of the triple-jack to start and the bunker issue from a **** lie at 10 he was methodical.

Having Tiger Woods three or four shots back after the first round usually isn't a good thing for those in front. Seeing him one shot back - after playing sparingly the last couple of months and now possibly finding a groove - could mean a big Tiger win this weekend. We'll see.

Nice job by Tiger not letting some things - blown putt, bunker chunk - get into his head today.

I switched to the other "Tigers" - note the Hawk Harrelson thread :)

But I'm actually pulling for Tiger. I'm a fan.

Tiger about to go all 1997 Masters and 2000 Pebble on Hoylake

You know I love throwing up the Nicklaus comparisons, and I lean toward Tiger not catching him..... but I give the guy his due.

He's leaving track marks all over where the Fab Four grew up.

Doug Ferguson, checkin' in.

Never been confused with that guy.

To quote Kevin Costner (is he getting rubbed down this week at the Open?): "Neat."

Tom Watson, on the doorstep of 57, looks like he could make the cut.

Watson was quoted a few weeks back as saying he feels he can still win the British Open. Gotta love a guy like that. Not only a great guy but still a great competitor.

What's the cut gonna be? Watson is 2 under.
