After watching the second one, I didn't know what to expect. But this one was certainly worth the price of admission. Almost as good as the first one.
Like Rocky V, I pretend Oceans 12 didn't exist.

I watched Ocean's 12 last month for the first time since I saw it in the theatre. The only time it approached the first one, I thought, was the scene with the cryptic dialogue where Damon quotes Led Zeppelin.
But the first one was so good, I will have to go see this one.

O12 got a couple of bonus points for Catherine Zeta-Jones, absent (along with Julia Roberts) from 13.

CZJ and Julia have been replaced as female eye-candy by, I am told, Ellen Barkin, who is 53, and looks every minute of it. Bleeehhhh. Couldn't they have nabbed a couple of mid-30s/early 40s babes (think Diane Lane, Marisa Tomei, Jennifer Connelly) to spice up the scenery? Whatsa matter, was Diane Keaton busy or something? Meryl Streep busy washing her hair?

I may go see it at the dollar matinees, or more likely, wait until it hits cable.

Clooney's Ocean's 11 was good, and if I was to ever have a man crush it would be on Clooney. But his film was nowhere near as good as the Rat Pack version. Granted, Sinatra's gang just wanted an excuse to party and drink in Vegas and Clooney's version actually had the semblance of a plot, but Clooney's film was just too smooth, too polished.

P.S. The original's ending was a lot better, too.

I'm a big fan of the franchise, but I didn't think 13 was anywhere near as good as 11. Much closer to 12. I do believe it's run its course.

Saving the budget and keeping a couple of star egos out of the way.

What's this burgeoning consensus that O11 was some towering cinematic masterpiece?
O11 and O12 were pretty much identical -- mildly amusing, no better no worse.

The Julia Roberts subplot in O12 was cliched and lame, but no more so than the other subplots. We ain't watching these movies for deeply-structured plots.

Who gives a **** about the producers saving money on their budget? It's their money, they've got plenty, let 'em spend it.

I don't care if Marisa Tomei can or can't out-act Ellen Barkin, Master Thespienne (I suspect she can). All I know is she is about 10 years younger than Ellen Barkin, looks about 20 years younger, and if you're selling a major star-driven Hollywood movie, and your featured female lead is Ellen Barkin, y'all's in a heap of trouble.

O11 was fun and somewhat of a money grab. Made no sense a lot of the time, but you had a feeling that the actors were having a great time.

012 was a pure money grab. The inside jokes overwhelmed the movie. The plot made even less sense than the first. In fact, I still don't know what the hell happened.

As with the first two, I'll wait until 013 comes out on cable.

Ocean's 11 was precisely the movie it set out to be --- a tightly-scripted piece of entertainment which both the actors and the audience thoroughly enjoyed. Ocean's 12 was badly scripted and I challenge you to find a half-full movie theater with only people who actually enjoyed the movie without squirming repeatedly. Soderbergh tried too hard and fell miserably short; Ocean's 12 fails the Ebert test because it fell far short of its goals.
