Speaking of the Post, who is the SE there now?
Greg Gallo quietly retired as of last Friday, from what I'm told.

Had heard about a month ago that Gallo put in retirement papers. Last Thursday someone asked me if I had heard that Friday was Gallo's last day.
Anybody know the real story?

Funny thing about New York and Philly, when I think of the stereotypical fan of either team it's a unibrow wearing a tracksuit with a gold chain and a lot of neck hair. Extra points for sunglasses at night and a backwards cap or big sparkly ear stud.

**** the Post. See ya Gallo and this publication is living on borrowed time.

Gingerbread,

Sounds great. Define "reasonably early" for a game that won't end 'til midnight :)

They're open until 4! I wish I could be there. Haven't been to NY in a while. Had to cancel a trip this summer, and I had all kinds of new neighborhoods ready to explore.

But, yeah, the Post is fun. And I haven't met all of them and couldn't even name all of them, but every guy I have met who works at the Post has been a great guy. A lot of fun, too. I used to talk about how much I'd pay to sit in on one of their morning meetings. The **** when they were chasing The Guy's Ho? Must have been priceless.

Mushnick alone makes the Post worth reading.

Also a fan of Joel Sherman.

my favorite? when bobby valentine mused in 1999 that he'd be fired if the mets didn't win the playoffs. next morning's headline on tom keegan's column?

"why wait? can the phony now"

If there's nothing in the Post tomorrow breaking down the series on Game 1 day, take it to task. Nothing wrong with having fun on the day before. Even the NYT on Tuesday had a light story about the Phillies taking the train to town.

The Yankees are going to fly 90 miles to Philly? Or go by limo motorcade?

dunno that there is any "real" story, spnited. greg beat his dad to retirement, plain and simple. and the race is on to hire a replacement, with at least one nydn assistant sports editor chasing it hard.

oh, and ginger, hoist one for me in the wee hours after the game.

Just making the point that other NY papers weren't writing all serious baseball stuff, which the thread-starter seemed to want in his Tuesday Post.

If any Post or the much much better Daily News or even the fancy NY Times reporters finish reasonably early this week and want to have a drink with the dark (internet) side (other papers and even TV types welcome), we'll likely go to Blondies EAST 84th and 2nd, since it'll be open to 4. Or there is always Blondies West, 79th off broadway), where Yankee coaches go, but I figure we see them enough.
In any case, come ... come ....come

Great wings!

They tried to get Victorino to pose for a photo with the offending newspaper cover:

I wondered what the story was about a new SE.
I did find it funny that Greg retired in his early 60s and Bill is still drawing for the NYDN in his late 80s

Why?

Not "funny Ha Ha," drip.
Just interesting that the old man keeps going strong at age 87 and the kid retires at 62 or 63.

I know what you mean. But I still found it odd that the old man is still drawing and even odder that the Daily News still runs his stuff. I really can't think of another paper with a sports cartoonist.
