NPR Tiny Desk running thread

This deserves its own thread.

This one might best the best I’ve seen and that really is saying something.

The level these songs achieve in this setting is magnificent. The musicians assembled to back the artists are astounding. The arrangements are amazing.

What I loved about this one is it was a couple you know and one you don’t. And, of course, it sounds so much different than how you know it, or will know it.

My buddy from college does all the sound mixing for Tiny Desk.

I think I can still objectively say the sound quality is as close to perfect as it gets since he took over.

The one he did remotely with Lake Street Dive during the pandemic sticks in my head as a great example:

He has pictures of himself hanging out with practically every musician ever. He lives less than 10 miles from me, but we might as well live in different universes.

So quiet a leader of their band, but so perceptive a musician, and such a powerful force on guitar.

Same, he's my favourite active guitarist. Seen him four times, twice with TTB and twice with the Allmans, and have never not been blown away. Guy is a force of nature and he never says a word onstage. I saw TTB last month when they were in Toronto and they were unreal.

I’m so curious about the process they use to do this. Do the NPR staffers know who is coming in? Is this filmed during work hours?

I mean, go to work not knowing and go home and tell the fam that Post Malone dropped by today.

I still laugh thinking about how scared Sadler Vaden looked when Isbell decided to talk to him and he just randomly started talking about how big babies’ eyes are and the ensuing conversation.

LOL. According to Wiki, the band's name basically translates as Sir Taint.

The name of the group arose from Prieto's reading of Michel Houellebecq's The Elementary Particles, which discusses the périnée. The word became a joke among the group, and thus the original name was simply "Periné". García, who initially opposed the name, later added the word "Monsieur", referencing the idea that everything that is French is elegant and refined.

And so I suggest Monsieur Periné as a serious contender to be SJ.com's house band.
