Keyes-Obama. The Rematch.
This time, it's...personal!

Why would Keyes even waste his money like that? Stupid move.

Oh, this ought to be fun with one more whacko added to the Republican mix

Hey, in 2004, when Michael Moore brought a mobile mosh pit to NH, Keyes was the only candidate who jumped in from the stage.
Got points from me for that.

Of course, disowning his gay daughter in public cost him some points.

Here's the thing with Keyes: He wants to win and would accept the office if given to him, but for him the message is what matters most. Everyone joked about how badly he'd get killed (and did, matter of fact) by Obama in the senate race, but I'd say the Republicans were actually being somewhat smart about it because that seat was pretty much out of reach for them, so they send in kamakazie Keyes, who rarely pulls punches, to score a few points on the hot name in a losing cause. And now he's back, knowing good as well he's not going to win the nomination or come close, but he'll make the debates a lot more interesting if he's let in.

Agreed.

In some ways, I think we'd be better off with more politicians who make things interesting, like Keyes, instead of the apathy-inducing bores we typically have. That said, Keyes is bat****crazy.

So on the Republican side, does Keyes' entry hurt any particular candidate by pulling the lunatic fringe vote away? If it hurts a candidate, which candidate does it help?

Heck, I have voted for him twice, and would happily do so again. He bypasses the political BS and actually says what he thinks, even when he knows it will cost him votes.

Voted for him once, too, in a previous life.

Well, he makes Brownback, Tancredo, and Hunter look sane.

Ron Paul's a classier act than anyone else in this particular zip code, and his chances are less than zero. Enjoy yourselves, but the fringe of the fringe isn't going to matter in either competition, unless the GOP is sufficiently deranged to actually try one of these guys in the VP slot -- and they'll only do that if they're convinced the top of the Dem ticket (whomever that may be) is unbeatable. Long way to go.

Hey I agree about Paul. I'm just a personal fan of Keyes, although I hate his strong views against the gay community, you know where he stands on everything. He will not talk around an issue. That's how they all should be!

Wish I could figure out who would do the same for you, Fen.

Keyes is a professional candidate. That's how he makes his living. He's gotten in trouble with the FEC in the past for paying himself with campaign contributions. That's why he went to Illinois to run against Obama, for the money. No surprise he's running again, even though he's got zero chance of winning the nomination (he's got zero chance of getting 10% of the vote in Iowa or New Hampshire) and there are other candidates making a hard pitch at the religious conservatives who are his base. He'll probably run in 2012 and 2016, as long as people keep writing checks.
