Sorry if this is a douple post or whatever but I hadn't seen it.

But it seems like jolly old Saint Nick has needed only a few months to unwind all of the good will Alabama has built up with the NCAA in recent years. This should come as no surprise to anyone who knows anything about Saban.

I'm no Saban fan, but this is about as minor a violation as you can have.

That, and every other coach in the country does it as well.

That's okay...Nick Saban is pretty minor as a human being.

Well it is minor -- but it is also the start of Saban playing by Saban's rules. And if I remember correctly Alabama was recently on probation or in some sort of NCAA mess and did an excellent job to clean it all up during the Shula era and I guarantee, given Saban's history, this is only the tip of the iceberg.

A funny story -- a former Alabama assistant told me a few days after they hired Saban that when Saban was at LSU, Alabama's staff and administration turned him into the NCAA for questionable recruiting issues or flat out rules violations at least ten times, but that didn't stop Alabama from hiring him.

The school wants to win and they've apparently sold their soul to achieve it.

that would require them to have a soul in the first place

Good point indeed

A few thoughts...

First, if Saban's going to skirt around NCAA rules, Miami's not the best place to do it.

Second, you really can't blame Saban for talking to these players. If they draw a pentagram on the floor and sacrifice a cat, he has to appear. It sounds like they may be entrapping him a little bit.

I laughed out loud at that

Look ... my feelings on Alabama are fairly well-known around these parts ... but every coach in America does what Saban did all the time. That doesn't make it right, and if Saban is guilty of an infraction, he should be punished according to NCAA and/or SEC rules. But ... come on ... it's college football recruiting. Who doesn't do stuff like that all the time?

I would love to see Napolean's bubble burst, especially now that he's in T-Town. But this is pretty damn insignificant.

Northwestern teammate Marcus Fortson said he spoke to Saban for "a few minutes" and that the coach told him Alabama "is a great place to get a degree."
Saban might not be guilty of violating NCAA rules, but he's definitely guilty of lying.

Look, y'all, they call this guy Nick Satan for a reason.

A pure, unadulterated, Napoleonic scumbag.

The honeymoon ain't gonna last that long in T-Town. And when the **** goes bad, brother, it's gonna go bad.

Fight the power.

Peace out.

Y'all leave the little fella alone. Lotsa coaches use the three-minute "hello" handshake or find some other way to bend the rules on speaking to recruits.
My hunch is that Saban will provide far better thread topics, and many of them, during his two-year tenure at 'Bama.

Two-year tenure? I thought this was the place he was going to retire.
