Chris Carpenter to miss 2013 season, perhaps retire:

I know he was part of two World Series teams and was a Cy Young winner once, but I can't see Chris Carpenter in the Hall of Fame because of his many injuries. The guy missed way too much time.

He has no chance.

None.

Agreed. It's silly to even suggest Carpenter. He had two elite seasons, three good ones and the rest was either getting lit up or hurt.

I think this thread is flying over a few of your heads. Well played ****.

It's kind of sad that the only good baseball HOF debates these days are whether guys who used or were presumed to use PEDs should make it.

Well he played for Tony LaRussa so you can assume Carpenter used PEDs.

Not sure if that helps or hurts his candidacy...

Maybe I gave **** too much credit in assuming he wouldn't pound that stupid joke into the ground any more. Didn't Moddy actually posted something a while back telling everybody to cut it out with the gag Hall of Fame threads because it was getting out of hand?

If you are right, I'll just have to remember to lower my expectations of Mr. Whitman.

Ah, oop is starting a fight on a thread that **** created as an olive branch and a way to laugh.

How very meta.

I'm sure **** is crushed.

What Moddy said was don't start Hall of Fame threads for every slapdick who has a couple of good seasons or a great start to a three-year old career - that leads to the comedian wannabes on here starting them just to try and be funny.

Chris Carpenter is done after a fairly distinguished career. It is a legitimate thread with an easy answer. He's not a Hall of Famer. Hall of Pretty Good, sure.

I don't think there is a single active player in baseball right now who would produce a solid HOF debate, and I mean one where there's anything close to a 50-50 or even a 75-25 percent disagreement on whether he should be in or not, unless it's because of PED use.
