Mushnick didn't publish on Friday and today's Post -- or at least today's nypost.com -- has a column by him titled/named PRIMETIME: All the News the Others Refuse.

It's not about sports. It's about TV news & politics. Is this going to be a new column for him? Is he being moved from sports?

While he likes to beat some subjects to death -- the save rule, black uniforms -- I enjoy reading him and look forward to his column on Mondays, Fridays, and Sundays.

Here's the link to today's column: http://www.nypost.com/seven/02082009/tv/primetime_153877.htm

If Mushnick is going to hold folks' feet to the fire, to the point of nitpicking, he needs to make sure he or his editors spell "Blagojevich" correctly:

CNN's Larry King did the unexpected during his Jan. 26th interview of not-quite-yet-ex-Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevic. King asked some pretty good questions. If only he had listened to the answers.

For example, when Blagojevic said, "But never, not ever, did I ever have any intention to violate any criminal law . . ."

Whoa, stop right there. If I tell you that I didn't "intend" to steal your golf clubs, you'd stop me right there. But after Blagojevic told King that he didn't "intend" to break the law, King allowed him to run through his own stop sign.

Holy ****.
The world's most sanctimonious maiden aunt is now moving to politics.
I can't wait.
This century needed a new **** Young.

Back in the day, I'd read Mushnick's moralistic screeds, then get to the bottom of the story and there would inevitably be ads for porno theaters or escort services. I've never been able to take him seriously since.

He too two checks from Murdoch publications and bleated about the decline of American culture.
He could bite me then and he can bite me now.

Right. He should work for Sam Zell. Or maybe he should work for the media company that enabled Jayson Blair's crimes against journalism.

WTF?

He's been doing the crossover TV stuff for a while now.

Maybe I missed those, but did he do them in addition to or in place of his sports column?

He didn't have a sports column in Friday's paper or today's. This made me wonder if they had him cover the (coverage of) the Super Bowl -- the biggest sports TV event of the year -- before starting a new non-sports column.

His column today didn't do much for me. Hopefully he'll write something about sports soon.

He's done the "other" columns both in addition to and in place of the sports page stuff. I think he did more of them when Andrew Marchand was with the Post and was covering more of the nuts and bolts sports TV stuff.

If he'd written countless columns deploring dishonest journalism and plagiarism elsewhere at the NYT while Blair was there, I'd be all over him. Instead, he writes endlessly for both NYP and TV Guide on behalf of a corrupt Aussie T&A merchant about how American society is becoming coarse and degraded -- associating other journalists willy-nilly with the activities of their employers and the moguls who own them. **** him and his tender conscience.

Actually, that makes me give him credit for flying in the face of his publisher's beliefs. A lot of people would just go along to get along, you know?

I've worked in places where the higher-ups (all the way to publisher) have had some political/sociological views that I considered abhorrent. As long as they weren't giving me marching orders to follow them, it didn't really bother me.

What it comes down to is personal integrity, and I don't question Mushnick's.

No column from him today. He usually has one on Mondays.

They also usually post a note if he's going to be on vacation or not publish because of a holiday -- something like, "Phil Mushnick's column will return February 12th."

Still can't help but think something is up.

Let me know the first time he writes about the ethical depravity of any Murdoch-owned media outlet. Mushnick is a douche and hypocrite for accepting checks from the worst of the worst.

I'm going to regret writing this because it will change the whole nature of the thread, but...

Did you decry Hillary Clinton's acceptance of contributions & fundraising assistance from Mr. Murdoch? Did you demand that she return the money?

Did any of you liberals?

I find it funny -- and a little sad -- that in an era of Zell and Lean Dean and McClatchy and Gannett and the rest, there are still a few people who deem Murdoch "the worst of the worst." Please. He is one of the few people on earth who still not only champions the very idea of newspapers, not only tries to roust the self-defeating masses to keep them relevant, but also, not incidentally, still puts his money where his mouth is when it comes to keeping them alive as something beyond pamphlets.

Look, I work for the man, so you can throw this all away and call me a boot-licker if you like, and the Post -- or NewsCorp in general -- doesn't have to be your cup of tea. But it does seem a little silly and downright outdated to try and ascribe all that ails our business to him.

Oh, and for the record: the announcers at FOX come in for the same withering criticisms, when they're warranted, by my man Mushnick as anyone else does. Last I checked RM still owned Fox, too.

No one said Rupert represents "all" that ails our business, just that your employer happens to represent the industry's most despicable instincts. Pornography is a good business for those who can stomach it and still look at themselves in the mirror, too.

I have to admit, though, that in comparison to Zell and Singleton and Gannett, Murdoch has lost any claim to being ``worst of the worst.'' Vaccaro's right on that. And he's willing to lose money to put out the papers he owns, for whatever agenda it is he's serving.

Folks in Chicago will tell you that the Sun-Times has only gotten worse with subsequent ownerships once Murdoch left. Not that it absolves him for the ills he has imposed on the bidness.

Yes, the bar is getting lower all the time!

with all due respect to me dear and talented friend vac, yes, mr. murdoch is far from the "worst of the worst" among the newspaper owners left standing. at least he's a newspaperman, though and through.

BUT, to defend him vis-a-vis phil is akin to the ol', "his brother was worse!" joke, isn't it? point being: i love phil, too, and know his heart's in the right place. but if folks want to flail away at him/rupert for living in a glass house, well, methinks they came to grip with that long ago.

and just have to accept the pebbles as they fly by.
