Need baseball cap help

I got a fitted cap for Christmas. At 7 1/4 it's just a mite snug and I'd like to get it just a bit loser (it's too long of a story, but this would be far easier than sinply returning it and going to a 7 3/8) so it would be more comfortable.

Any help on how to loosen the band? I've heard get the band soaked and then wear it until it dries and shrinks to fit, but I figured before I'd try that I'd call upon the best sources in the world for help.

Got any ideas?

Soaking it and wearing might help a little, but a cap that's too small will usually stay that way. You might try shaving your head.

There actually are hat stretchers available. How much they cost, I don't know. But most, if not all, of the MLB teams use them.

It's been a while since I've had an mlb fitted cap, but if it's made of wool, you're sol. Once you sweat in it, it will shrink without fail. Exchange it before you change the color of the band.

Too tight? What happens is the sweatband does its job and collects any moisture when you are wearing the cap. Without a head to hold its shape and size, it will shrink as it dries. For starters, grab your cap from the rear of the cap, place it over your knee and give a good hard yank. You will hear some popping noises. That's O.K. Stop pulling after you hear a couple of these noises. If you pull too hard and too long, you could rip a seam. We DON'T want that!! What you are actually doing is breaking the sizing, which is a stiff plastic strap that we sew into the cap for shape and size maintenance.

If you can get yourself to a western store (or online one), they sell wooden cap stretchers. You stick the thing inside your cap, and then crank it like a reverse vise, and it gradually stretches to fit. I've considered getting one for the four out of five caps that end up being smaller than their size says.

I did what they suggest with a too-small, New Era Jays cap and it worked.
