I covered a couple of weekends of the NCAA Tournament last month, and bought the $16 a day wireless. I don't have a company card so it went on my personal credit card.

Now, it's on my bill. Yet I have not seen a receipt of any sort (they said they'd mail or fax it). I have no freaking idea who to even get a hold of to try and get a receipt so my company will reimburse me.

Anyone have any clues?

Show them your credit card bill. That should be proof of payment.

Shaggy -- If you don't get it resolved soon, I'd shoot an e-mail to David Worlock at the NCAA. He's the basketball liaison and I'm pretty sure he can get you in touch with the right people.

Every time I've ever done that the bill is emailed to me... I can't imagine how this is no longer the case...

I would just like to note that it is unbelievable horse**** that wireless costs $16 a day at the NCAA Tournament. And in Detroit, where I was, it worked about half the time.

Ditto in San Antonio at the FF. We were told it's a problem inherent to domes, there's nothing they can do about it that wouldn't be cost-prohibitive (yeah, right ::)) and it's going to continue to be a problem at future dome sites.

All I know is it made for some nerve-wracking moments Monday night when the game went to OT, deadlines were being busted and the wireless was extremely spotty.

They could charge three times as much and they'd get it... I think Soldier Field charges $30 for press box internet access...

Remember, it wasn't too long ago where you would have to pay $150 plus a day if you wanted a phone line put in...

I agree it should be free, but...

I sent this to shaggy:
NCAA Championship Telecommunications Center
217 Grandville Ave. SW, Suite 301
Grand Rapids, MI 49503
866-474-9244 (phone)
866-545-3855 (toll-free fax)

when more and more writers are using aircards, that cash cow will dry up and they'll look for another way to charge us for something -- probably electricity.

The $16 a day is absolute b.s., but if you sign up before the open practice day, it's only $10 a day, which is more reasonable b.s. ...

Here's karma for you: I was ready to pay for wireless at $16 a day for the two game days (not the days before each game) but the wireless guy didn't want to give me a user/password the day before for fear I'd use it on a day I hadn't paid for. So I waited, and in the interim, found there was free wireless in the arena. Didn't pay a cent ...

I didn't have wireless problems in San Antonio, actually. In Detroit, virtually everything was a problem. That was easily the worst basketball arrangement I've ever seen. And not just for media. The players hated it, coaches hated it, fans hated it. It was a disaster.

But the sold a lot of ****ing tickets, so **** everybody.

air cards

cheaper in the long run

never have to worry about wireless (or phone lines) again

file from anywhere

i tell SEs all the time -- get one air card, install the software on all your guys' laptops, and give it to the guy each night who's got the brutal deadline

what is it now ... $20 a month for basic coverage?

What bull**** in excelsius that is. I cover a NFL team that plays in a Dome and have never had a significant wireless problem. And their wireless is free.

I am days away from my aircard. Free at last, gouging ****ers!

If they charge 16 bucks a day for wireless, they better make damn sure they're putting out a product worth the price.

I'll agree with others on here: They didn't at the sites I was at. It was too spotty and completely unreliable. Amazingly, I was charged full price anyway.

Wasn't the NCAA, at least at one site, asking reporters not to use their cards?

Well, bull**** on that, boys.

What next, "Please turn off your cell phones, but Official NCAA Pay Phones are available for your convenience at a nominal rate of $29.99 per call" ?

And just think, that was a test run for next year's Final Four.
