Nashville trip

Going to Nashville at the end of March for a few days. Mainly to catch up with a group of friends from Alabama, but also because Nashville has been awesome the couple times I've been.

Haven't been in about four years. When I did go, I spent most of my time on Broadway. Is that still the best spot, or is there an area I'm sleeping on?

Broadway and 2nd Ave is the best night life. Near the top end of 2nd hang a right, and just around the corner is a place called The Beer Cellar that's got more options than you can imagine.

Nice. I'm a little partial to the $6 pitchers at Paradise Park, but I might check the Beer Sellar out.

I was at the Coyote Ugly in Nashville once and one of the bartenders spilled some beer and told me to lick it up off the bar. I politely told her to go **** herself.

Yup. Just looked it up. They HIGHLY recommend reservations, which isn't surprising. Definitely going there.

The last few times I've gone to Nashville, I was determined to get around town. But I never got more than a few blocks from Broadway and the low numbers.

Same with me. Mainly because I've only been there for one night at a time. This will be a four-day, three-night venture, giving us ample time to check out some new places.

Have you been to a concert at the Ryman? If not, you guys should check it out. The venue is so cool it doesn't really matter who's playing.

Holy ****, yes, it's a real place. Many an artist got their start there and writers frequent it.

And I second the Ryman. I'd watch a puppet show there.

Other than that, I got a kick out of the little Parthenon. It's the Parthenon, smack in middle America. I still don't fully grasp why.

Had a quick look around the Ryman one afternoon with a group of Johnny Cash fans who were getting a quick tour. Spectacular, would love to see a show there.

I saw Gov't Mule play a three-hour show there. Best concert I've ever seen.

Stop by Carrie Underwood's pad. Tell her I said hello. Makes great cookies, but don't expect her to light up the grill.

The Bluebird is, literally, the closest beer from the bedroom I grew up in.

That said, it's too touristy these days.

Be sure to drop by South Street...you may run into Hayden Panettiere...and you'll definitely get good crawdads and shrimp!

Do yourself a big favor and drive out to Franklin and go to lunch at Puckett's Grocery. I ran into Ben Folds last time I was there.

The rebirth of East Nashville as hipster central still blows my mind. But go to Bolton's for hot chicken if nothing else.

The Bluebird is too touristy? How? People go for the singer/songwriters, correct? I don't care who else is in the (small) crowd or where they're from.

I'd definitely like to run into Hayden Panettiere. Or at least a slow walk.

I've never made it off Broadway either when I've gone out in Nashville.
Not a huge fan of country music but The Ryman is worth going to. I think it's Tuesday nights they do the live radio show which was pretty cool to see. They actually have a guy reading the commercials which gives it an old time radio feel.

Big fan of Jacks Barbecue to eat.

The bars all blended together because again not a fan of country music. The place I enjoyed most and would have never gone into was a place called Paradise Park Trailer Park. Only went in because I heard some Allman Brothers blaring and needed a break from country. Rewarded with a huge selection of draft beers and great southern rock.
