Started at 3 Friday afternoon......drove the hour to Dodge City to umpire for the annual 48 hour softball tournament.

Well...they told me I would have a few games, but not to where I was a total mess.

First game 7:00 Friday night....they were short on umpires. Told me I had 31 games.

oh ****.

I started at 7:00 Friday night, and worked til 9 Saturday morning

Back to the hotel.....slept til 2 Saturday afternoon.

2:30 game.......worked til 12 midnight Sunday.

Back to the hotel...slept til 3 Sunday morning........

worked from 4 am Sunday til 4 Sunday afternoon.

Wondering why my right knee was the size of a large cantaloupe.......may have a torn meniscus.......but can't tell for sure because it's so swollen.....ice, ibuprofen for the next 2 days.

Chef: That is insane. They all but ran you into the ground.

I thought you were going to tell us you were going to die in two days and were wasting the last precious hours of your life on SportsJournalists.com. I was going to call you the biggest looser greatest SportsJournalists.commer ever.

Glad to hear you're going to live. :) Hope the knee gets better.

Nothing like officiating mass youth tourneys. Always get twice as many games as you were told.

These were adults.

An absolute drunk-fest.

Did they at least share any of their tasty beverages with you afterward?

I guess if they did share the beer with you the old "Hey ump, are you drunk" heckle would work.

How much money did they pay per game? Did they pay for your hotel, food, etc?

Was it worth it financially?

Congrats on living through a marathon situation, but ...

What were the best heckler lines you heard?

Doing first base for the first championship game yesterday......

"Hey ump.....is there a rule against getting laid in the dugout?"

My response: "No.....but if the moaning gets too loud, I'll be forced to eject you!"

$20 per game.....hotel paid for....food paid for.....also mileage paid for the drive over/back.

Well worth it financially.

Wife has 100 percent health care at her work.
