Someone here turned me on to Disturbed’s cover of The Sound of Silence. And while I can’t say it’s better than the original, it is a gorgeous piece of music.

the older I get the less I care for new music or have the inclination to discover new music. But I love really good covers of songs i already love.

please share some good covers. I define a good cover as something more than someone doing an impression of the original artist.

Hendrix’ All Along the Watchtower is an original but still a cover. Pretty sure Dylan issued a version first. Unlike Springsteen and Fire, he wrote but covered The Pointer Sisters. But his Blinded by the Light is a great cover.

Taron Egerton’s cover of I’m still Standing is merely an impression of Elton John, he didn’t add anything.

The The's album Hanky Panky is full of Hank Sr. covers with interesting takes on the songs. I wouldn't say better than the original, but worth a listen.

Somebody mentioned on another thread that the lyrics to “Crazy Train” were surprisingly deep. I learned that about a month ago when I discovered Church of Roswell. Here’s a twist on “Crazy Train”:

I'll take a possibly controversial opinion and offer that KD Lang's cover of "Hallelujah" is overcooked in every sense. I know it's often suggested as a great cover.

I just heard the Jennifer Warnes cover of "First We Take Manhattan" and it's still great.
