Thinking about this the other day after reading some horrible reviews for Valkyrie and Seven Pounds. Which movie star has had the most hits with the fewest misses?
In other words which Hollywood star has made the fewest bombs - having appeared (starred or costarred) in a minimum of 10 - non-low budget -movies.
Gene Hackman?
Newman?
Redford? Though Lions for Lambs may hurt.
Mel Gibson?
Robby DuVall?
Arnold?
Bill Holden?
Clint?

I think Pacino, DeNiro are out of the running. So to with Sly.
How bout Hackman ... I'm sure he made some, but I can't think of any off the top of my head

Nominees? Thoughts?

It was Dustin, for a long time.

Smith's protected because of his personal likeability, since some of those scripts
(Hancock) were lame to the extreme.

Newman. Very very few bombs over the course of a 50-year career.

Even his clunkers ("Harry and Son") usually had some saving graces.

It depends if we're talking about Box Office or quality movies.

Box office, lately, none have been better than Big Willie Style. Although, other than Ali and Pursuit of Happyness, I don't think anyone is going to claim his films are anything great, and that's from someone who enjoyed Hancock.

Wild Wild West was perhaps the worst blockbuster movie of all time.

Ed Norton had been on a pretty consistent run until his last couple films.
How can it not be Tom Hanks? I can only think of one movie of his I didn't see, The LadyKillers, and most of those I know who have seen it say it's terribly underrated.

While I would prefer to go by quality, I think you almost have to base it on box office, because quality differs so much from person to person.

Four words: Bonfire of the Vanities.

Also, in the mid 80s, Hanks career was more hit and miss. That said, I love his misses (Man With One Red Shoe, Joe Versus the Volcano and Dragnet) more than most of his hits.

I really liked Joe Versus the Volcano.

Four Best Picture nods from the five or six he made? Just try to top John Cazale's batting average.

Panned by most critics. Bombed at the box office. But, yes, it's a very good film, IMHO.

Evil set the bar at 10 films. And while I agree that Cazale was an excellent actor, he was mainly a supporting actor and sadly died before his prime.

How many bad Hackman films are there? Put one hand in your pocket.
