Looked up the career stats for Jeter and blew me away that he's only 74 hits from 3000 and basically has not had a down year in the past 15 years, well except for this year. He's hit over .290 every year and over .300 12 of 15. Aside from Ichiro, there's no one else I can recall who has performed at such a high level for such an extended time. (And this from a Bosox fan.) A-Rod is definitely right there. But usually a HOFer has a peak of 8-10 years then hangs on and gets the numbers to make the HOF.

Steroids aside, Barry Bonds had one bad year in the last 20.

This thread needs to begin and end with Albert Pujols.
Over 30 homers and 100 RBIs each of his first 10 seasons, and has never had an average lower than .312 (which came this season; his previous low was .314 in his second year, 2002). As an added bonus, he's only been lower than FOURTH in the MVP voting once (2007, when he had a 32-103-.327 "down year" and finished ninth).
How's that for consistency?

Babe Ruth ... he's been in the Hall of Fame every one of the last 30 years.
